If you’re a regular reader, you’ll know I love Lego! Last year I designed some Lego Minifigures based on Castell Coch characters.

Earlier this year I wondered if I could actually build some “BrickHeadz” inspired MOCs for the same characters.
Lego “BrickHeadz” is a popular theme that launched at retail in 2017 with a Batman set. Nearly 200 sets have been released so far and they can contain multiple characters.

The standard BrickHeadz all have a similar core and building techniques so I was confident I could make a decent attempt.
I based all the designs on the minifigures and I’m really pleased with the results. The stripes on Lady Bute’s dress were the biggest challenge.
I’m particularly pleased with Lady Bute’s hair and the gold accents on Lord Bute’s robes. Finding the little details that make the design recognisable is really challenging but very satisfying.

William Burges is missing his iconic glasses but I think he looks good without them. Some BrickHeadz have glasses but they’re very big. I couldn’t come up with a solution that matched the thin frames he wore.

I managed to build the Butes and Burges with pieces in my collection but had to buy some extra pieces to finish the Cadw volunteer.

Cardiff Castle in the Lego Store
The Lego store in Cardiff has a pixel art illustration of Cardiff Castle on the wall by the entrance.
I’ve already created a series of Cardiff landmarks so I couldn’t resist creating my own version of the clock tower.
