If you’re a regular reader, you’ll know I love Lego! A few months ago I was inspired to illustrate a Lego Minifigure.
I quickly got carried away and decided to see if I could design a Minifig based around Castell Coch. I started with Lady Bute.
After finishing this first illustration, I knew I was going to have to complete the set. I attempted Lord Bute next and then William Burges.

I designed the prints on the torso, legs and arms to be as accurate to actual Lego Minifigures as possible. The hair pieces are all based on real items that you can buy.
After I played with putting the models in scenes around the castle, I decided to create a contemporary character. Cadw staff and volunteers don’t have a uniform so I made a simple outfit to represent them.

Lego Minifigures are often sold in special collections so I mocked up a version of the packaging they come in.
I shared the illustrations on social media a few months ago and people mentioned that you can get minifigures custom printed. I doubt I’ll attempt that but I hope you enjoy this idea.

The Lego Shop
The Lego shop in Cardiff was recently updated and I noticed they have a pixel art illustration of Cardiff Castle on the wall by the entrance.
I’ve already created a series of Cardiff landmarks so I couldn’t resist creating my own version of the clock tower.
